What do people wear at the gym in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong people can be very stylish at the gym! Although some gyms like Pure Fitness offer free clothes for their members, a lot of gym enthusiasts wear their own gym collections for a better workout! So it is safe to say people not only dress to impress, they also dress for functionality so no wardrobe malfunction would happen during their workout session.

Brick and Mortar stores

1. Lululemon (Best Gym Clothes)

Very all-rounded brand for those who want good gym clothes!
  • Price: Expensive, but they offer regular discounts
  • Quality: 5/5
  • Style: 4.5/5

Lululemon’s leggings are seen everywhere in Hong Kong. People wear them for yoga, cardio, hikes and even just for running errands! I own a few pairs of lululemons and I must say their quality is amazing! The material used are top-notch so even when I throw them in the washing machine for countless washes, they hold up like they are brand new! They also have many collections to pick from, with different colors and their sizes are quite inclusive for bigger girls like me!

As for the male section, they sell high quality shirts, shorts and pants. Their material is unmatched by the other brick and mortar brands. However, I must say their clothes are quite pricey and you might want to wait until they have discounts or go to the shop and look for pieces that are on sale!

2. Traditional sports clothing

  • Price: Varies
  • Quality: 3.5/5
  • Style: 3.5/5

According to our experience, stores such as Under Armour tend to have the best collection while Adidas, Nike and Puma have quite average clothing. Nike and Adidas have good classic choices, but their sizes are less inclusive as Under Armour. Nike often sell out their pieces with bigger sizes quickly. Puma’s functionality is poor as they seem to be more of a “sport fashion” as opposed to being actual sports wear. Traditional sports brands’ clothing are also facing a quality issue as most of their clothes are not durable at all! Their threads, seams and glue do not hold things together for over a few months.

3. Cotton On

  • Price: Low
  • Quality: 3.5/5
  • Style: 4.5/5

When I was a student, I shopped at Cotton On for sports wear all the time! Their clothes are solid in terms of quality, however, they are not very durable. Cotton On sports collection are built on aesthetics and you can expect to find some pretty leggings and sports bra at a very low price point! I had leggings that lasted a year and bras that managed to support me through hikes and workouts.

Online stores

YoungLa

Website: https://www.youngla.com/

  • Price: Mid
  • Quality: 3/5
  • Style: 5/5
  • Ship to Hong Kong? Yes

YoungLa is an influencer-built brand as we see many male influencers sporting YoungLa apparels nowadays. Their sizes are quite inclusive so bigger boys may find things that fit them well. However, their shirts tend to be more sheer despite not being sold as “chiffon” shirts. Their tees are okay but they tend to be better looking on photos than in real life. I do not recommend them but they do have very chic pieces!

Gymshark

Website: https://row.gymshark.com/

  • Price: Mid
  • Quality: 4/5
  • Style: 4.5/5
  • Ship to Hong Kong? Yes

Gymshark is still growing as a brand as we see boys and girls rocking their Gymshark collections! I would say Gymshark’s pieces are very solid and stylish. However, girls may have to be careful of certain shorts as not every pair of leggings are built equally. I have seen some girls wearing their leggings not test their pieces and squatted with non-squat-proof leggings! For the male collection, they are also very popular as they do accentuate people’s silhouettes very well.

Bombshell

Website: https://www.bombshellsportswear.com/

  • Price: Mid
  • Quality: 3/5
  • Style: 5/5
  • Ship to Hong Kong? Yes

Bombshell is a rising brand for females that would die for the aesthetic at the gym. Their collection tend to be on the sexier side with many models wearing their backless bodysuit! Unfortunately, Bombshell is a female-only brand so there are no male collections from them. Apart from that, their leggings are not squat-proof so I recommend testing them out before committing to a large wardrobe change!

My Protein (Best Gym Clothes for Value)

They also sell gym clothes!

Website: https://www.myprotein.com.hk/

  • Price: Low
  • Quality: 4/5
  • Style: 3/5
  • Ship to Hong Kong? Yes

My Protein apparel is seen everywhere but you may not notice them as they brand themselves with the “MP” abbreviation. Their clothes are not bad at all with solid quality and low price when they hit us with a 70% off discount! However, their styles are very basic with minimal design. I would say you pay what you get from them.

Final Thoughts

I understand that these are all “mainstream” clothing brands and some of us may want to learn more about niche brands. If you want to know how to get clothing from SBD or A7, you may click here to learn more!
